It is with a sense of pride, accomplishment and a new focus in its commitment to public safety across Canada that the CFAA celebrates its 40 years of history. The CFAA was founded on July 10, 1973. The CFAA remains steadfast in its original mission to “Maximize the Effectiveness and Use of Fire Alarm Systems in the Protection of Life and Property”. Our work began in 1973 when a small group of Canadian fire alarm professionals, driven by the strong leadership of Jack Duggan of Fire Devices, met with the officers of the U.S. based Automatic Fire Alarm Association (AFAA) in June, 1973, to explore the feasibility of establishing an AFAA chapter in Canada. However, these visionary Canadian pioneers shared a broader dream beyond a chapter status and opted to establish a unique Canadian identity.
